About midbloom

hi, i’m danaia

Interior designer. Retail strategist. Brand translator.Founder of midbloom.

I help independent founders turn what people already love about their brand into a space customers can feel, understand, and remember.

Before midbloom, I worked across retail, hospitality, commercial interiors, customer experience, and team leadership—from West Elm and Starbucks to IHG and Marriott. I learned that the best spaces are never just pretty: they make the brand clearer, the customer journey easier, and the business stronger.

Before founding midbloom, I created a partnership between my former design firm and Seattle Restored to provide pro bono design services to small businesses. That work proved how transformative thoughtful design can be—and revealed how many founders still fall between DIY resources and traditional full-service design. I founded midbloom to close that gap with equitable, accessible support at every stage.

WHAT I BRING TO YOUR SPACE

I know what makes people walk in—and stay

My path bridges hospitality leadership and spatial design across retail, commercial, and multifamily projects. I bring big-brand discipline and real-world operational insight to independent spaces—offering thoughtful, straightforward partnership designed around how your business actually runs.

I translate brands into real places

My foundation is a BFA in Interior Architecture from Cornish, backed by ongoing studies in service design, customer experience, and entrepreneurship. That mix lets me look at your space through two lenses at once: how it feels to your customers and how it works for your business.

I built the bridge I couldn’t find

I created a pro bono partnership with Seattle Restored to support local small businesses. Working hands-on with founders revealed the exact gap midbloom now fills: flexible, accessible design support—whether you need a little DIY guidance or full-service design.

I’ve worked across scales, brands, and constraints

From household names like Wayfair, Old Navy, The Gap, and Voodoo Doughnut to mission-driven brands like Masaya & Co. and Transcend Fashion—I’ve learned to spot what makes your brand unique, protect it, and translate it into an experience people remember.

The perspective behind midbloom

Spaces should serve the people inside them, never the other way around.

My design philosophy

I believe design is a storytelling superpower. The materials chosen, the way a space is laid out, and the smallest details should help people experience a business’s culture and connect with the people behind it.

The midbloom story

Large retailers often have the budgets and teams to create immersive, polished environments. Small businesses deserve access to that same level of design thinking. midbloom exists to make thoughtful spatial strategy more accessible, so independent founders can tell their stories, strengthen their communities, and build places where people feel they belong.

Stories, culture, and a clear point of view should be visible in the experience.

Thoughtful design can reflect identity and history without turning them into decoration.

Independent businesses should have access to the kind of spatial strategy larger companies have privvy to.

The goal is not to create another polished, placeless interior. It is a space people recognize, return to, and feel they belong to.

Good design should help a business tell its story, make people feel welcome, and create a place that belongs to its community.
